Rather than go for the now standard curves and scalloped cover look of other laptops, the Toshiba Satellite E105-S1802 retains the thin boxy look with rounded edges of its predecessor. This isn’t a bad thing as it has a nice platinum silver finish and line-based imprint on the bezels. The back-lit keyboard is very comfortable while the track-pad offers matte surface with plenty of tactile feel to it. A fingerprint sensor is located in the middle of the two track-pad buttons for a bit of extra security.
Featuring an Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 processor, 4GB of DDR2 memory and a 500GB hard disk drive, the Toshiba Satellite E105-S1802 is by no means a slouch in terms of performance. In fact, it delivers better performance and storage capacity than most laptops within the same class. It is limited by the Intel GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics, but with its 1200 x 800 pixel resolution and 14.1-inch screen, you can watch 720p HD video.
At 5.2 pounds the Toshiba Satellite E105-S1802 is light for its 14.1 inch screen laptop. Offering a HDMI port, three USB ports, one eSATA/USB combo port, an Ethernet LAN port and a multi-format memory card reader, the laptop has plenty of connection options. It even has an FM antenna jack so you can listen to radio direct off your laptop to go with the wireless-N connectivity. A DVD burner optical drive rounds everything up.
With its six-cell battery the Toshiba Satellite E105-S1802 offers a 4 to 5 hour battery life on a single charge. Most 14-inch laptops with the same specs can’t even dream of getting more than 3 hours, so this performance is excellent for a laptop if this class. It’s better than average components lets you use any office application, surf the Internet, write an email and watch HD movies. However, its dismal built-in speakers mean that you should invest in a good pair of headphones as well.
All in all, the Toshiba Satellite E105-S1802 is an excellent workhorse laptop for the mainstream user. A fingerprint reader makes it ideal for business users looking for a bit more security, while other extras like the FM antenna jack and back-lit keyboard offer a bit more value to this already very affordable laptop. These features make the laptop great for most mainstream users as well as business execs that need a long lasting yet large laptop.
